You’ve most likely heard this, just focus on your strengths. 20% of your work will generate 80% of your results. If you want to find your strengths just decide which self assessment tests to take.
While this is true in business, its not true for every area of our life.
- Health – Fitness and Nutrition
- Relationships
- Self-Development – your mind, your beliefs
- Fun and Adventure
- Contribution
If we just focused on our strengths for every area of our life, we’d be living pretty sad lives.
For business, you learn your strengths and create a team around your weaknesses. In other words you can outsource what you suck at and don’t like to do.
You can’t do this for your health, your relationships, self-development or fun and adventure. You’d be surprised at how many people neglect fun and adventure. Are you one of them…?
Imagine if you said to yourself that your going to outsource your working out, eating healthy and let someone else handle that. Not gonna happen! Can’t happen! Your the only one who can do that! If you don’t do those things it shows up in your life.
Imagine if you called your date and said, oh by the way, you’ll be going out with my outsourced relationship date person. They will fill me in on you, the conversation and report back all your stuff they may think I wouldn’t like. You could actually do this to save time but would be a little extreme!
Imagine if you put an ad on Elance that was looking for someone who could read and think for you.
Imagine that your body sucks and you don’t eat very well at all. You might not have to imagine… This is a perfect example of someone who didn’t work on their weaknesses. Its a weakness because its your current result.
Unfortunately, none of this can be done for us. We can still apply the 80-20 Principle to each of these areas of our life but the idea of catering just to our strengths in every area of our life isn’t going to cut it. You need to work on these weaknesses. In business no, but in health, fitness, nutrition, dating, relationships, and fun, you certainly have to!
You not only have to work on your weaknesses in these areas, you have to form success habits for them the rest of your life. If you don’t put your focus on these weak areas outside of your “business or job” they will show up in your life and it will be obvious. Turn these weaknesses into your strengths!
You must make the decision in your life to say, Yeah I’m gonna get this handled and I’m gonna do it today!
Please don’t focus on your weaknesses for very long. Identify them and focus on what the improvement looks like, the end result. You want to focus on your end result and picture it in your mind. Just remember you attract what you focus on…
If you happen to have a job that makes you do stuff that is an actual weakness of yours and it doesn’t make you happy, you dislike doing it and it drains your energy, get out and run… to something that allows to focus on your passions, interests, strengths and that you enjoy doing!
