OK Ladies & Gents, Its Time To Ditch The Treadmills, Ellipticals, and Weight Machines – Solving The Dilemma Of Not Knowing How To Work Out Properly

by Curt Nelson

Treadmills Suck

Whenever you go to a gym you always see tons of people on elliptical machines, treadmills and the weight machines (Not the Free Weights). And you usually see these people either in the morning or later in the evening. Its like its a treadmill traffic hour rush. Right before work, or right after work.

What’s makes it even worse is that their looking at a magazine or talking on their cell phone while their trying to get a workout. Their totally missing the whole point of the workout.

Now, not to be the bearer of bad news here, but these people are doing it all wrong. If this is YOU, keep reading! Especially if your between the ages of 20 – 60 and want to improve your results. I’m talking a better looking body and increased performance in everything you do.

You can accomplish more in less time by simply doing some basic interval training and weight training. Yes, even for the women. Now some of these people may be doing interval training on the treadmill or the eliptical, but I doubt it.

The bigger problem lies in their long term strategy and their mindset. Most people do the treadmill thing because its easy, all you have to do is turn on the machine and walk. No worrying about correct form, sets, reps, etc..

And doing this method doesn’t really break people out of their comfort zones. They stay nice and comfortable. Long and Boring aerobic exercise.

If you want to look great and get more done in less time to anaerobic training.

Lets say I’m the average frustrated person going to the gym. I’ve got my goals down and I want to lose 20 lbs or more within 60 days or less, or maybe you just want to have a better looking body . The typical strategy people use is the treadmill, and oh yeah, I’m not going to change my diet or nutrition plan.

You’ll stay trying the treadmill plan for maybe a month, if that, and then quit all together. You may even have tried some weight training or utilizing machine workouts (which are stupid). But your muscles start to hurt really bad and now that’s not an option.

Your mind is weak and now you need to give up because that’s either your programming or what your use to. So you do what your familiar with.

OK, heres how to tackle this dilemma…

You need to slowly start to change your mindset. And get use to working out. Once you start having great workouts and you know what your doing it’ll get easier and start to be fun.

Do this by creating a new workout ritual. By the way, you should be creating rituals for everything in your life. You can read our post on Creating Rituals for more info. You can also learn more about How To Workout Properly to get a better workout strategy going.

Once you have your workout ritual established, start your workouts you have planned.

Example of a workout Ritual: On Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 11 am I’m going to workout in the gym on Mon and Fri, and at the park on Wed. And I’m going to do this FOREVER (and constantly mix things up), not just one month. On Monday I am going to free weight whole body training. On Wednesday I’m going to do Interval Training by either running, swimming, or biking. On friday I’m going to do a crossfit workout.

Now you have exactly when you’ll workout and what you’ll do when you workout. Now you just need to know how to workout.

If you need a personal trainer get one. If money is an issue, look for videos on the internet on how to perform the exercises correctly. Or buy books that show the exercises on how to do them. For crossfit workout videos just go to www.CrossFit.com.

Our post on how to workout effectively should cover all your questions on how to set up a workout that’s effective and one that gets results.

Another thing you can do to get a great workout is to do a bootcamp. These are becoming increasingly popular in the cities. Usually these classes contain around 70% women and 30% men.

Bootcamps are usually structured to last 4 – 6 weeks and vary from 3-5 days a week. There mostly outside and involve group activity. Its a fun way to workout and for less than you would pay a personal trainer in each session. Each class costs around $15 – $20. A personal trainer would be around $50 – $150 per session.

Just do a search in google for your city then bootcamps.
